As more and more Aussies transition to renewable energy, battery storage has emerged as an effective, accessible solution for many home and business owners. Not only is it a more sustainable source of energy, it’s also a great way to help reduce your impact on the grid at peak times when electricity prices are at their highest.
How does it work?
Battery storage goes hand in hand with your solar. Depending on the size of your solar system you may produce extra power throughout the day. However, if you’re not there to use the power it will automatically be sent to the grid.
The good news is your electricity retailer may pay you for the power generated (e.g. 5c per kW), the bad news is you don’t get to benefit from the excess power yourself!
Instead of putting your excess solar production back to the grid, your battery will charge throughout the day using the extra solar power produced. Once the sun goes down, it will kick in to offset your power usage during those peak times.
What are the benefits?
Reduced power bills
Using your own excess power supply reduces your dependence on the grid, in turn lowering your power bills!
Backup power supply
In case of a blackout or grid failure, there are options available with battery storage to run an emergency power supply to different loads in your house.
Renewable energy source
The future is all about renewable energy, and as we all look to reduce our carbon footprint, battery storage is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment.
